Natural Consequences
We hear stories all the time of people who are defiant and challenging to God, Christians, the Bible or anything related to God's plan. My favorite are those who, when justifying their sin, say something to the effect of "well I guess maybe God will just have to strike me down." It doesn't always work that way (although I think I'd like to see that happen at least once in my life). No, when Israel didn't listen to God and wouldn't obey Him, He let them experience the natural consequences of their actions and miss out on the blessings He had waiting for them. Sometimes God doesn't need to punish us directly because our choices are so bad the natural consequences will will be enough. Don't think for a second that "getting away with it" means there aren't consequences. Sooner or later you'll find out what kind of trouble you've gotten YOURSELF into.
