Obeying All Scripture
There are many church leaders who have a problem with verse 12. They see the thought process as being 'old world' or sexist or not dynamic in modern society. And indeed many churches glaze over this issue of church leadership when it comes to women. They feel that they must be equal opportunity employers and politically correct on all fronts.
Thing is, though it's not just the passages in the bible that tell us of our hope in Christ and the promise of salvation that are inspired and God breathed – no, ALL scripture is God breathed.
Women don't like this verse for the same reason that men don't like that looking upon a woman in lust is a sin (Matt. 5: 27). Because it is challenging. But you cannot twist and bend theology to meet your own preferences.
All scripture is God breathed; even the ones we don't like reading. "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it' " (Luke 11:28). "Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him' " (John 14:23). You can hear the commands of God, read the scripture and ignore it. Or, you can obey the word of God and receive his blessing and his residence in you life.
