God's Image
The deity of God is addressed again and again throughout the scriptures. Deuteronomy 4:6 says "hear oh Israel, the Lord our God is one." Jesus spoke that "I and my father are one," leaving no room for a separation. When He commanded in Matthew that the disciples baptize in the NAME of the "Father, son, and Holy Spirit," the disciples had the revelation of his instructions and baptized in the name of Jesus. Jews during the ministry of Jesus never argued that he claimed to be equal to God, rather they accused him of claiming to be God. They understood that Jesus was claiming to be God in flesh, and that's exactly what He was. Not a third person in the trinity, but a manifestation in the flesh of God and His word.
So what is meant when God said "let US make man"? In the times of royalty, using the plural case to refer to ones self was a representation of power. Also, the Bible refers to the spirits of God, which is no different than referring to attributes that describe our personalities. To claim that this scripture supports the trinity would be to claim that the Bible contradicts itself. But in reality, it's an example of God claiming His power while creating us in His image.
