Don't be a Judaizer
Nothing destroys Christian unity like false teaching, adding things to the gospel that dilutes the message. Here Paul warns the Philippian church of the false teachings of Judaizers who threatened the unity of their church. They preached that in order for Gentiles to be right with God, they had to embrace Jewish law regarding dietary regulations and circumcision. Paul had harsh words - calling them dogs, men who do evil, and mutilators of the flesh. Paul reminds us in this passage that it is not our flesh, or our deeds done in the flesh that gives us confidence. We put our trust in Christ alone who is the full measure of our confidence.
