Identity Questions
Who: Jesus, paralytic, random people, scribes
What: He heals a paralytic, scribes had evil in their hearts
When: Soon after meeting Peter
Where: First on a boat, then a village, now a house
Why: Jesus was sure of his identity, the pharisees and scribes were jockeying to show their power and influence over the people.
Application: Jesus is able to identity and reveal himself to me in real ways, but my witty responses to influence others is vanity. In my imagination I sometimes position myself as theologically superior and toss out their positions as trivial.
Arming myself with knowledge of Christianity or thinking I have a superior grasp of intellectual arguments blocks the manifestation of Christ in my interactions with nonbelievers.
What is important really in these situations? Winning an argument? What about Christ revealing his identity to this person in the confrontation over spiritual questions?
