We see here that the rain cycles were not the same as they are today. Have you ever heard of it "raining from the ground up"? This is what happened. See with today's rain, it comes from the sun evaporating the ocean water, this condensation rises up into the air to make cloud formations. The condensation within the cloud formations becomes so great that it creates water droplets that eventually become heavy enough to fall the ground in the form of what we call RAIN. This is the process today.
By the way, the ocean water is not safe to drink because of the incredible amount of salt content; however, the rain water is safe (relatively speaking) because the salt is too heavy to be carried away by evaporation. Cool way for God to provide water for us today, huh!?!?!?
If you look at verse 6 again, it says that a MIST came up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! I know, I don't understand it either, but we can only take it literally for what it says, that somehow a mist came up from the earth, not from the sky. This is how God took care of His creation. This is how he made the plants and herbs to grow and reproduce before God made man.
