wor.ship [wur-ship] - verb

When most of us think of worship, we thinking of singing, right? "Yeah, today at church I sang during worship." Yes, it's lovely that we have ceremonys - labeled as Worship - for God. I love them, personally. But I looked back in my Bible at something I had scribbled in as a note back in a Bible study my freshman year, and it says: worship - surrendering yourself to lift up God. When I read this I think about one time during lunch I was at the microwave with my friend, and I was surveying the lunchroom, and I saw someone I knew praying, thanking God for their meal. And it wasn't like they kind of "blinked" their eyes for 3 seconds and sent God a little mental post-it notes with "Gee, thanks!" scribbled on it. It was like flat-out, eyes-closed, head-down, hands-folded prayer. Like there was no mistaking what this kid was doing. It floored me. At the time, I didn't think of it, but this is exactly what worshipping is. Putting God first and you last. Not being concerned about what others think, but about what GOD thinks about you. And it's hard, because a lunchroom is full of teenagers, and kids can be cruel. They can rip you to shreds if they choose. High school can be a jungle! But despite the threat of blood-thirsty peers, this kid surrendered himself, despite the chaos around him, and lifted God up. It was very cool. THAT is what worship is about! :)
