What are some of today's political hot buttons - use of wealth and caring for the poor, abortion, war, dangerous religious fanatacism? Jesus in Matthew 26 addressed all of these, but He does not fit in any of our conservative or liberal boxes, not even close!
He places a high value on continously caring for the poor, but exposes the hypocrical motives of Judas, who opposed the use of money to honor Jesus instead of giving it to the poor, by was ok with the use of money to kill Jesus instead of giving it to the poor.
He negates a common argument against against abortion, by declaring that it would have been better for Judas had he never been born.
He doesn't leave any room for the idea of fighting a war in His name, when he commands his companions to put their sword away during His arrest.
And the whole chapter exposes the empty but dangerous hypocrisy of the religious leaders, who are ok with using force and lies to promote their agenda.
I see myself in these problems, and I want to go Jesus' way, not the way of whatever label or box people want to put Him in.
