the stronghold of praise
Psalm 8 is one of my favourite psalms. There are so many rich truths to glean from this short passage but I am going to just concentrate on v. 2 - "Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger".
Have you wondered what happens when we praise God? It is not just about singing Hillsongs or dancing around. Something fundamentally shifts inwardly. Recently our lifegroup was going through the interconnectedness of body (soma), soul (psuche) and spirit (pneuma). All affect one another. As we begin to outwardly praise God, our soul and spirit are impacted.
What are we doing when we praise? We are making a declaration that "God is good all the time. All the time God is good." This may seem like a play on words but think about it - it is actually quite profound and life-changing if we truly grasp what was just said. For when we begin to live our life through this lens that our Abba Father holds us in His hands and that no matter what happens in our life, we will react with praise not grumbling, complaints and disappointments, you have set up an impregnable stronghold against which the enemy is powerless.
Our enemy, the roaring lion is prowling the terrain, looking for someone to devour. His primary aim is to turn your heart against God. To make you doubt His goodness, His faithfulness, and His love toward you. What better weapon/stronghold you have in your spiritual warfare than praise? When we begin to praise God, we are positioning our soul and spirit to be in a posture of complete trust for we are no longer leaning on our own understandings of the situation (no matter how smart we think we are). So my dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, let us establish this stronghold by learning to praise God - for He is good... all the time. All the time... He is Good! :D
