Would You Shut Up!?
Have you ever been around when somebody's blown a secret or let the proverbial 'cat out of the bag'? Maybe you've been the one to blow it before. Honestly, how hard is it to be quiet and not say anything? Here we have a guy that Jesus heals from the most ostracizing disease you could have. He makes one simple request - don't tell anyone, just show the priest and make your offering. But NOOOOOO, the guy goes out and doesn't just tell a few people but spreads the news - to the point that Jesus can't even enter a town but has to stay out in "desolate" or "lonely" places. I think to myself 'what a piece of work' and then realize I'm not that different. Oh sure, I didn't have leprosy, but there's been plenty of times that I've heard Jesus give me very clear instructions about what to do or not to do, and I just go on like I didn't hear it. I've always known that I was missing out on the blessings of obedience, but never realized that there might be a strong chance I'm messing up what God wants to do. When we don't obey we can really mess up more than we think!
