Turning cravings into stepping stones
I've been on a 'diet' merry go round since the birth of my son 18 years ago. Each time I begin a new plan, I am excited and confident that this is the 'time' for me to finally get this excess weight off for good. But after a few days or maybe even a week, I find myself at a dinner party staring at a cheese platter. Or a birthday party glaring at birthday cake. And of course, because its a 'celebration', I give in. 'Just one piece' won't hurt, right? Wrong.
Made to Crave says we don't HAVE to give in to our cravings. Lisa said that every time we have a craving, use that time to pray. Ask God to help you to make the right choices. Like the psalmist says below, lay your requests out to God throughout the day! Each defeated craving is a brick on your path to a healthy life. At the end of most days you will have an entire walkway of 'little' victories.
It's always awesome to have an accountability partner too, someone who will check in from time to time. But your agreement HAS to be with God. He is the only one who is with you every single day. And he is the only one who will give you the strength you need to be the healthy you you are destined to be.
As you begin your day today, remember to ask God to walk with you. Ask Him to help you to make good choices and help you to not fall in to that same-old same-old you're so good at. Instead, strengthen your will to be stronger, more energetic, more determined. I'm praying for you! Pray for me too!
Scripture: Psalm 5:1-3 NIV
Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
