Silence Drives the Plot
I stopped watching the show Lost somewhere in the second season. It drove me crazy that every episode seemed driven by the miscommunication and/or misunderstanding between characters. And, I'm not talking about major communication errors... I mean, in any given episode, if someone just added, "no, what I meant by that was..." then the problem would never have had a chance to develop and fester. Of course, that would be bad for show biz.
I don't understand why Jesus said nothing to Pilate. It's frustrating that this entire part of the plot is driven by the withholding of communication. I understand that the Jews were going to find him guilty no matter what - that is different than Pilate. He seems to want to be just and give Jesus a chance at addressing the false accusations.
What are we as Christians supposed to do with this example of silence? We are supposed to speak up for the weak. Defend the poor. Seek justice, righteousness. But, what happens if we are wrongfully accused of something? Do we say nothing to create mor drama?
