God's Sacrificial Love
It is interesting that the message of Christ (and the prophets before Him ) has more often than not been rejected by the majority. Priests and rulers have united to stamp out the truth. In response the Prince of the universe laid down His own life. Rather than take out vengence upon those who had rejected Him, he chose to lay down his own life and by taking the weight of their sin upon Himself, pay the "price" for their redemption. Not to a God who needed death to become forgiving, but to us who needed his selfless death to become forgiving.
"Christ was the medium through which [the Father] could pour out His infinite love upon a fallen world. 'God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself.' 2 Corinthians 5:19. God suffered with His Son. In the agony of Gethsemane, the death of Calvary, the heart of Infinite Love paid the price of our redemption." Steps to Christ pg 13
