Oct. 25, 2011 - Going Through The Motions

Abram was called righteous in this passage of Scripture. Abram did a lot of things for God...a lot of actions because of his faith in God. But it is not the actions that always prove our devotion and submission to the Father. What made Abram righteous was the internal things in his relationship with God.

People can act like they believe in God without actually having a relationship with God. People can do all of the Christian things...going to church, helping those in need, speaking "Christianese"...even while they never pray or spend time in God's Word. In essence, they are going through the motions. Abram did not...he did righteous things for the Kingdom of God as a direct result of his INTIMATE and ONGOING relationship with God. It came natural to Abram...as an automatic outflow of the time He spent in conversation with the Father. Abram's walk with God was not based on what he felt but on what he knew...and he knew God.

When we know God...really know God...because we live in a constant relationship and dialogue with Him...we will easily be able to avoid going through the motions.
