Journal Your Life: Isaiah 38:10-20

I don’t know how many of you journal, or even believe that it is a valuable tool for life, but let me tell you, it can be valuable in so many ways, but more specifically it can be valuable in your journey of following Jesus.

I have been reading in Isaiah for the last few weeks, and this morning in ch. 38 the thing that stood out to me the most was probably the least theological part of the scriptures, but it was definitely beautiful and practical. Starting in verse 10 and going through to 21 we basically see the Kings personal Journal. It is a prayer that he prayed in his greatest distress…he was sick, and told that he was going to die, and we get an inside look at many if not all of the emotions he was experiencing at the time.

The most beautiful portion though is at the end, when he writes and we realize God has answered his prayer, and the King will be both spiritually and physically healed. So awesome!! But here is the point, we have to wrote down those most amazing things in our lives, when we know that no one could have gotten us out of or into or free from a situation except for God. Even if you are still wrestling with the God thing, I know that you too have had nearly impossible things right themselves and leave you with your jaw on the floor wondering, “how the crap did that hap[pen?”

The benefit, especially for Christ followers is that when our faith is most fragile, and we wrestle with doubt, and fear, and have trust issues with God, we can go back and see where God has come through for us big before, and know that He is not suddenly going to stop being God, or suddenly drop the ball.

Write down your prayers, your wins, your losses…record the nuances of your life, and where God has been woven into the fabric of who you are. Those words will get you through your most difficult times.
