Double Jeopardy
David's men were probably not afraid of the Philistines in this passage. They were more afraid of their own countrymen, since Saul had made it clear that he was out to destroy them. They considered themselves in double jeopardy and needed double assurance.
It's very difficult to defeat our true enemies when the people of God are acting like our enemy. Instead of working together, many churches today become territorial over minor doctrinal issues. A house divided cannot stand, and this only works to Satan's advantage.
I say we need to do all we can to cooperate with each other, but if the Lord is clearly calling you to action don't second guess it. Just obey. God will handle the situation.
