Why Not The Earthquake?
It wasn't enough for Elijah to experience a wind so powerful it would have torn him limb from limb had he ventured out, but God also sent an earthquake. Along with the same idea presented in "Why Not The Wind?" it seems that the earthquake can represent those circumstances that happen to us that just shake our foundation. Elijah bought in to the chatter, but then his very life was threatened. He reacted to this circumstance that suddenly appeared and ran. So God sends and earthquake to show another area where you won't hear God's voice. Why would God not be in the earthquake? Because when we focus on the circumstances and react to the temporal, we forget that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever [[ Hebrews 13:8 ]].
