God is our Protector

Whenever LORD or LORD GOD is written all in capitals in the Bible - it means that God's Name is in the original text.
יהוה God's Holy Name is YHVH or with the vowels YAHWEH.
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills--from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth" (vv. 1,2). God is my Helper. I drive on a busy highway every day and I know that. But still in anxious times like today I say, "Where does my help come from?"
The psalmist lifted his eyes to the hills. The most stable, secure thing the Jews knew were the mountains around Jerusalem. Then the psalmist lifted his eyes higher and said, "No, I don't get my help from the hills. I get my help from the heavens. God is my Helper." Whatever my need or task is today, my help will come from the LORD, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. A GOD big enough to make this world and keep it going is big enough to help me (and you) with the problems of today.

God is also my Keeper. "He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep" (vv. 3,4). This is a dangerous world we live in. Enemies would from without and from within like to attack and destroy. But as I walk in the will of God and depend on His power, He is there as my Keeper and Preserver. "The LORD shall preserve you from all evil" or in the NLT "The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon at night" (v. 7). This verse doesn't say I won't have pain. It doesn't say I will never suffer or sorrow. Though I may be hurt, I won't be harmed. "He shall preserve my soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore" (vv. 7,8).
God is my Helper and Keeper. No matter where my path in life leads, if I walk in His will, He will preserve me. So I can walk with confidence today. I have a Helper, a Keeper and a Preserver, who will see me through.
