Evidence of Faith
The tenth represents God's people commitment to him. This concept of tithing the 10th started back in Genesis. It's a symbol of God's people and their commitment to him.
Only a small amount of Christians tithe. A small amount of those tithe faithfully. But look at Jacob's criteria for faith (v20-21). As long as God gives him food to eat, garment to wear, safety returning then that would be enough of an indication that God has cared for and blessed him. Those three alone are enough for him to declare God as Lord. In that declaration arises the willingness and commitment of his 10th. It is amazing how Christians, including myself, today fail to recognize God's abundance blessing. We fail to see God's provision when things do not go our ways. We ask for more and more and more. When God doesn't answer we dismiss His existence.
