From Broken to Shattered
In Genesis the serpent tempted Eve with the hunger for knowledge (of good and evil) and with a lie to make her doubt God..., "you shall not surely die." A perfect world was broken.
In Mathew, the devil tempts Jesus (who has been fasting for 40 days) by trying to make him doubt God as well, "If you are the Son of God..." and with bread..."Man shall not live by bread alone..." Satan's lies could not "break" Jesus' trust in his Father's word.
Finally, in Proverbs 1 after verse 10, we see a truly shattered world where men seek to fullfill their hunger of power as seen in doing evil for evil's sake. . Proverbs 1:11 shows the blantant temptation, no longer hiding behind a lie nor trying to create doubt but simply prodding, "Let us lie in wait to shed blood, Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause."
Lord, help us to hear your voice and live only by "every word that proceeded out of the mouth of the God."
