Response to people who think that a literal interpretation of Genesis is relevant
Some people think that it does not matter if you believe in a six day creation or a six billion year evolution, but believing in a literal six day creation is absolutely necessary because some of the most basic doctrines in the Bible start in Genesis.
One of the key points to the theory of evolution is the "survival of the fittest." In order to have a new species evolve, the weaker species must die. Thus leaving a "new" and better species in its place. This process is repeated for millions of years until we have the species we have today. This means that evolution is advanced by death.
The point is that if God used evolution to make the world, there must be death and suffering BEFORE the fall into sin. This cannot be. Death and suffering are a punishment for sin (Romans 6:23) God could not have punished sin with Death and Suffering if Death and suffering already existed before the fall. Bible-believing Christians cannot believe in evolution and millions of years because it destroys the very gospel of the LORD.
Thanks be to God that we do not have to suffer the eternal consequences to sin, because God sent his only son to pay for our sins.
