Honor Yields Wisdom

Food takes on a symbolic meaning in this passage. By rejecting the King's food, deemed unclean, and accepting only the natural provisions granted by God, the young men experienced a profound principle: honoring God yields wisdom. Eating healthier did not make them Einsteins. Surely it is not the act or method of honor we should infatuated with; the means should never outweigh the message. But understanding a yielding of the heart to honor God was more than just an internal decision in this passage is key. The choice manifested itself as a constant reminder when mealtime came round. And as occasional victims of the human condition, these seems a rather genius reminder.

Relying on God's complete nourishment, rather than man's failed attempt at true fulfillment is the beginning of wisdom.
