Vindicated

Vengeance is mine says the Lord. David had the opportunity to kill his enemy, but he resisted his own inclinations and promptings of his men. He understood that it was not his place to exact revenge or take what God had promised prematurely.

His actions vindicated him before Saul and his army. And later he reacts the same way further solidifying his innocence. Even Saul admits to David's divine claim to the Kingdom.

If David had killed Saul, he would have never been able to firmly establish his right to the throne for himself and his descendants. There would have always been doubt which would have emboldened the power hungry to try and take his throne by force. Violence begets violence.

As it turns out that even when the Kingdom split between Judah and Israel, David's descendants had exclusive reign over Judah. Israel on the other hand suffered from many brutal takeovers and never clearly established a kingly line.

We should never run ahead of God. He knows best. This requires a lot of patience and faith on the part of the saints but the rewards will be more than worth the suffing.
