Surprise

The witches reaction to actually seeing Samuel, a real spirit from the dead was one of surprise and fear. She cried out. And she immediately knew that her client was Saul. Why did she have this reaction?

I believe she was not used to speaking with real spirits or what some may call ghosts. She expected to converse with a demon, one familiar to her. This is typical of most mediums or witches even today. She was shocked to see the real thing, and feared because she realized that this could only happen by an act of God. Even the demons tremble at His prescence.

I would never put God in a box and say that He never sends the Spirits of the dead to our world. Obviously this is what happened here. But it would be the exception, not the rule. My Mom used to speak of her father's spirit comforting her during troubled times. My guess would be that it was a ministering spirit, or angel, that took on her Dad's form because he knew it would be comforting.

But any appearance or actions of spirits that are frightening are definitely the work of evil spirits or fallen angels. God has not given us a spirit of fear. As Christians through the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus Christ we have dominion over these spirits. We have no business messing around with anything dealing with the occult, such as ouija boards, mediums, or fortune tellers. What fellowship has the light with darkness. We should not be dancing with the enemy.
