Here's an interesting note about this passage. We see in verse 1 that Reuben had his birthright taken from him and given to Manassah and Ephraim. Judah should have gotten the birthright, but was not given it. Yet, in this passage, we see that a chief came from Judah. This is the lineage of Jesus. We know that David was of the tribe of Judah and Jesus descended from David. Jesus is the chief.
