The real fall of man...

Was the fall of man the original sin for mankind? Or was there something greater as a man that happened. Adam realized what had happened. He knew that his wife had eaten of the forbidden tree. He knew the consequences. It wasn't a confusing concept. Eat this, die. At that point, Adam chose Eve over God. He would rather die with her than be alone with God with all of the rest of creation. Isn't that what we still do today. We choose our wife over God. We choose our family over God. We continually make a choice that we would rather "be" or spend time with everything else, than with God, creator of the entire universe...and me. Why is it so hard to learn that?
