Why should I praise God all the time?

I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. Ps. 34:1

Apparently this psalm was written by David when he pretended to be insane before Abimelek who drove him away. This is a psalm of praising God as he was rescued from death. We know as we read the historical accounts of David's life that he had a turbulent life. Despite being one of the greatest kings in Israel's history and being touted as a 'man after God's own heart', David was someone that faced betrayals, murder, adultery, exile, broken-heartedness, etc...

And yet, in all circumstances, whether high or low, David had set himself with doing one thing - to praise the Lord at all times. What is his secret? How could he do this? The answer lies in the rest of the psalm. His confidence lay on the solid foundation of who God is.

- He answers prayers (v.4)

- He does not shame those who look to him (v.5)

- He saves (v.6)

- He surrounds those who fear Him (v.7)

- He is good (v.8)

- He provides (v.9,10)

- He watches and hears (v.15, 17)

- He is close (v.18)

- He protects (v.20)

- He does not condemn (v.22)

With a God like this, no wonder David could praise Him always. Take some time today to remember who our God is. I don't know where you are in your life today - whether you are on the mountains or in the valleys... but let us learn from David and let's praise Him at ALL TIMES.
