We see here that God, who is learning to deal with these people and their free will, works with a fairly heavy hand.
He wants Abraham to be wealthy, and so Abraham needs some venture capital. God provides the venture capital with Sarah's beauty and a trick.
I always find this passage a bit perplexing because it shows Abraham as a grifter. But, then again, Pharaoh would not have lost his wealth if he had not been so lustful.
