Cup of wrath

What Jesus means with the cup is the cup of God's wrath. He knows beforehand that he'll need to experience the God's wrath to the fullest, because of the sins of the mankind that he took on himself. We can't even imagine what Jesus went through for us just to satisfy God's holy justice.
