God is my witness
Paul continues to express his thankfulness to the believers at Rome, and goes on to communicate how he is seeking to support them in their ministry.
He begins vs. 9 with "For God is my witness" - as if God wanted to put an extra exclamation point to the following statement that He was witnessing to. When we see the statement God is a witness to, a rush of conviction fills my soul.
Do you realize that God (yes, that's right - the God of the universe, the God Paul so faithfully serves) is witnessing to the fact that without ceasing, Paul made mention of these believers "always" in his prayers.
Do we understand the power of prayer? Better yet, do we underestimate the impact it can have on this world and the lives of individuals serving God? Do we pray without ceasing? Or do we seek to accomplish "our" agendas in "our" strength, "our" timing, and "our" way? Paul was one who most of all understood the significance of prayer in the service of God.
He goes on to tell the Romans of one specific request that he made mention in these prayers for them - that he would have a "prosperous" journey to come to them. Again, all of his prayer was according to the will of God - in accordance with the instruction we received from the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is so important that we never underestimate or underutilize the incredible power we find in prayer.
