Hang in There

Scripture - Hebrews 6:12-17 - 12 Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them. God Gave His Word 13 When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it to the hilt, putting his own reputation on the line. 14 He said, “I promise that I’ll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!” 15 Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. 16 When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they’ll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. 17 When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—

Observation - Abraham is a key figure in the Old Testament and the book of Hebrews. There seems to be two things that are always connected with Abraham - he was the father of the Israelites and he was faithful to God. He is further highlighted in the 11th chapter of Hebrews.

Application - Have you ever looked up to someone and really admired them? What caused you to do that? It was probably because they had some characteristics in their life that you wish you had in yours. The writer Hebrews gives us a good person to look up to - Abraham. He hung in there no matter what and God was faithful to Him.
Have you ever said, "Okay, starting today I'm going to start . . ." and then found yourself slacking off just a couple of days later? I know that I have done that (like thinking I would put a daily devotional thought everyday on my facebook page!). What should we do? Quit and say, "Forget it!" No. Pick it up and start again. Remember verse 15 - "Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him."

Prayer - Lord, help me to hang in there!
