Psalm 79 - Advent 2008
In many respects this is a devastating Psalm. But it is also one hard to relate to. As followers of Jesus, God is present to us at all times. He is close at hand; he is full of mercy.
This Psalm is stark reminder of what life would be like apart from the incarnation, apart from the historical reality of Christmas--Emmanuel, God with us.
Advent is a good time to reflect in that reality.
Where would I be without Jesus?
What would my life be like if I was not a follower of the King?
These are scary questions for me.
Not because I cannot imagine life without Jesus but because I can.
And it scares me.
Luckily...
"How long, Lord?" (vs 5)
Not long now...
Jesus is coming.
Jesus has come.
Come Lord Jesus!
