Friend of the Family, John 11:1-3

Think
Are you really tight with any family other than your own? What does that look like?
Jesus was a friend of the family. Jesus was good friends with Lazarus and both his sisters, Mary and Martha. Because Jesus is God, we often loose his humanity. Jesus had great friendships and he was tight with this family. When he visited their house he probably went in without knocking, looked for food in the fridge and felt comfortable calling their mom, "Mom". Jesus was at home at Lazarus, Mary and Martha's house.
This family is seen to be with Jesus and major apart of his life. Mary is the one who massaged Jesus' feet with expensive oils and then wiped off the excess with her hair - totally scandalous by the way. She was annointing his body for barial without knowing it. This was a huge part of Jesus' story. Then there is a moment when folks are over at their house and Jesus is teaching everyone. Martha, plays a good host by preparing food for their guests while Mary just sits listening to Jesus. Martha's like, "No, she didn't". And Jesus gets caught up in a sibling rivalry. Lazarus and Jesus must have been really good friends because the sisters identify him as "the one you love so much is sick." Lazarus is one who Jesus loves so much. You've got relationships with families like this I'm sure.
When you think about Jesus being tight with a friends' family, how does it expand your view of him?

Pray
Lord, Jesus, I'm so grateful that you are a personal God who enters into life with people. You didn't just float around people or keep them at a distance. You entered into their lives and the lives of their family's - knowing brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. And you loved them so much.

Live
Jesus, help me to enter into relationships with my friends' families, knowing that loving my friends is loving their brothers, sisters and parents too. Lord, also show me someone who needs me to invite them into our family - those who might be loneliy, family-less and loveless.
How will you live like Jesus?
