The Most Disappointing Moments

Scripture - 17 Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?

Thoughts on this verse - I'm really not trying to be old fashioned but it's getting harder now that I'm 50! But here are my thoughts on vs. 17 - it's true! It hits the bullseye! It's something we need to live by.
What are some of the most disappointing moments I can recall in the ministry? When we had low attendance at an event? No. When we had a low offering on Sunday? No. When someone didn't like my sermon or a decision that was made? No. The most disappointing moments are those when followers of Christ do something that goes against their Christian witness. It really makes me sad when I hear someone let a cuss word "slip" and they try to cover it up because they are around "the preacher." It really makes me sad when an attitude comes across that is totally opposite of a Christ-like attitude. It really makes me sad when someone doesn't seem to care that what they are drinking or the movie they are watching or the place they are going really goes against showing others Jesus. It really make me sad when . . . You fill in the blanks. Now it's easy to say, "That's what I would expect from a preacher." That's fine. I would probably say that to. But what do you do with the words of James - "Isn't it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?" Are we all perfect? No. Will we all make mistakes? Yes. Should we all try to live up to vs. 17? Absolutely.
