Too Good for this World

The early Christians described here are the epitome of the word "lowly". They were killed in completely humiliating and awful ways. They wandered from cave to cave with no place to call their own; their day to day objective was merely to survive all the moments therein. And yet, the author of Hebrews refers to these heroes as "too good for this world".

I can just imagine a cosmic locker room where Christians through the ages are waiting anxiously to race out into ultimate competition. Jesus is there - the powerful warrior described in Revelation, not the wimp described in pathetic Jesus jokes. He's preparing to lead his followers into battle. His pre-game speech is something to the effect of the following:

"In this life you may be killed. It may seem at times that we have lost outright. But I tell you that in death, in devastating trials, in overwhelming circumstances, you win. You are better than this world. There is nothing anyone can do to take that away. Let them do what they will in desperation, because the truth is (epic pause).....I have already defeated them!"

Today, be better than this world.
