Using the gifts to minister to others in the Church

S: Acts 9:32-43

O: Peter sought out those who needed healing (v. 33, he "found a certain man named Aenas") and was sought by those who needed healing (v. 38, "the disciples had heard that Peter was there"). This power of healing is used exactly like you would think you would use it if you had it--liberally, for the benefit of all. The result: "all that dwelt at Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord," “And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.”

A: Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35. A friend from a Muslim country confirms that love demonstrated by Christians for the locals may be suspect; but love of Christians for other Christians cannot. The miracles proved the power of God, but the disciples' love and care for one another demonstrated the change wrought in their lives by following Jesus. In 1 Peter 4:10, he urges those who receive spiritual gifts to use them to minister to others. These gifts are gifts to the Church, so not using them for the benefit of others robs the Church of gifts Jesus gave the church for that purpose.

P: Lord, I pray that my own life can serve as a demonstration that you have the power to change lives and make us over in Your image.
