Question - Generational Consequences
These verses, though perhaps intended to be taken figuratively, seem to indicate that God will punish or reward children for their ancestors' actions. Isn't this forbidden elsewhere in the Bible? And isn't this wrong? Wouldn't we recoil against laws that punished the children of murderers, and rewarded the children of others regardless of their actions? Perhaps the best interpretation of this passage is figurative. What do you think?
