Being Used by God to Change Lives

That’s our mission statement at Suncrest Christian Church. But I know that there are people who don’t feel like God can use them. I know because I used to feel that way.

God only uses special (perfect) people to do His ministry here on Earth. And those people have to be uber-qualified, probably get called to serve with trumpets blasting on a mountaintop or something, or know their calling from the day they are born. Anyway, I’m sure there were no questions in their minds when they stepped into a serving, or ministry, position.

Well, that’s what I used to believe. Now I am living proof that God uses whomever He well pleases. I am as imperfect as they come, have no bible college background and no formal ministry training. My degree is in Math, of all things. What I did offer God was a willing heart, He did the rest. It is by His grace alone that I am privileged to serve as a ministry director.

In 1 Tim 12-17 Paul talks about the Lord’s Grace in his own life. Paul was certainly not ‘ministry material’ when Jesus called him to ministry. He had no formal training, and I’m guessing didn’t read scripture. And talk about imperfect… Yet Christ chose Paul to be a key player for the kingdom.

Doesn’t make sense to us, but it does makes a powerful statement – God can use you no matter what you’ve done, no matter what your imperfections, no matter how useless you feel.

Are you offering Him a willing heart?
