God tells Abram to leave, but not where to go. And Abram went. The entourage set out for Canaan, and then to Bethel and toward the Negev. He seems to be trusting God in these moves.
How did he know where to go? Was God leading him through the power of suggestion? his natural inclinations?
Because of the famine, Abram went to Egypt. All of a sudden, he seems to have lost that trust in God, cooking up a scheme to save his life from a perceived danger.
Was this a detour, or was God using the famine to get Abram to Egypt? Or, was the move to Egypt to avoid the famine a result of Abram not trusting God, with his scheme simply confirming that?
