Lord, Shall We Fight???
I have been told numerous times that Jesus was a pacifist. However, when I read this verse I do not see a pacifist in Jesus. Most people seem to concentrate on the fact that He immediately healed the man's ear, but I think that we also need to concentrate on the fact that Jesus was surrounded by followers that asked should we fight. A pacifist would not be surrounded by sword carrying men ready to fight. One would never ask a pacifist if its a good time to fight, because a pacifist's friends would know that he does not fight.
It appears that the reason he healed the man's ear was to go to the cross blameless and innocent (not as a pacifist).
