Transformation is Difficult
This whole chapter is a solid one that I love to return to time after time. But these first two verses always land with great impact on me. To offer up my body completely as a living sacrifice is so difficult. There are so many pleasures that this world offers which are enticing and make this decision difficult. Especially the little ones, like food and entertainment.
And to break out of the conformity of the world, this requires so much discipline! Paul drives the point home that none of this can be accomplished on our own. We have to let God come in and change us at our core levels. He has to transform us from small, selfish individuals into something better. Only then can we test and approve what God's will is. We can't hear it unless we are allowing Him to alter our structure.
