Covenant God

God had made a covenant with Abraham and passed throught the pieces of the animals that had been slaughtered. Usually both parties passed through the pieces to signify what would happen to either of them if they broke the covenant. Here in the passage about Isaac, God calls for a blood sacrifice, but then spares Isaac. In the same way that God said He would spill His blood when the covenant was broken, here He shows that it's not Abraham's son that would be sacrificed, but His own Son. I've heard it said that Mount Moriah is the same place as Calvary. How much like God is it to call Abraham to sacrifice his son and then spare him on the same mountain that He would one day sacrifice HIS Son instead. Praise God for His covenant with Abraham, and as a result, with us!
