Commitment to God's Vision
As I read this passage in this morning's reading, I thought about Abraham's faith. Of course, we know that he was willing to obey God to the point of sacrificing Isaac. But we see this again here. Having children and grandchildren was even more important then than it is now. But Abraham was not willing to compromise on what God had revealed to him to make sure that Isaac had the "ideal" wife.
I wonder how many times I have chosen to "fudge" on what God had showed me to get what I thought I was supposed to have....Abraham could have justified making a compromise in this situation, but he wouldn't do it. He stood firm in his conviction that God had promised that land to him and his seed after him, and nothing was going to make him give up that promise.
"Lord, please help me to never go back for any reason no matter how enticing or logical it may seem. Let my focus be on your promises and the vision that you have revealed to me!"
