Peter's misunderstanding
I feel for Peter- on the one hand, he recognizes that Jesus is the the Christ- Son of God. (and Jesus blesses him for it) How could he understand that God the Son would have to die? Jesus comes across in vs. 23 as very harsh. I often wonder why Jesus wasn't more clear in his teachings to the disciples- always talking in parables and then rebuking them for not understanding. I am wondering why if the Father revealed to Peter Jesus the Christ as diety, why He did not reveal more clearly the role that Christ would have to play to fulfill "the plan" of salvation.
I feel fortunate that when I read scripture, I have the benefit of old and new testament side by side- allowing each to shine the light of clarification upo the other. It doesn;t hurt to have a learned theologian as my husband who is ever-so patient with my endless questions.
