Breaking the commandment to love

it seems that james is saying that if you show partiality you're not loving every person as yourself. you're breaking the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. this also very powerfully implies that the law is a law of love. equates keeping the law with loving your neighbor as yourself. it also sets the standard of the law as a spiritial standard which goes even beyond the letter of the 10 commandment laws, which is the same thing that jesus himself preached (he who looks upon a woman lustfully already has committed adultery in his heart). The standard of the spirit of the law is much higher than the standard of legalistic letter-law keeping.
