"No Man Left Behind" - A Sacred Promise
We’ve all heard the military quote “No Man left behind.” Someone shared about a friend of theirs, a veteran Marine, who told of a time when he and his buddies were trapped in Vietnam and an Army helicopter pilot came in and saved him and many others by repeatedly flying into a hot zone to get a couple out at a time. It hit home, “no man left behind” is not merely a motto or a slogan, it is a commitment, a sacred promise.
So when Jesus said, “And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them to eternal life at the last day (Jn 6:39)” he was taking that commitment, that sacred promise to an eternal level. He is not going to leave even the most severely wounded of His behind, no matter how beat up by this world they might be. It’s not in the Savior’s DNA. “No man left behind” is His sacred promise!
