Lot's Leisurely Stay in Sodom

Verses 1-26 (climaxing with Lot's wife being turned to salt in verse 26) is a painful picture of Lot's indifference towards sin. And his offer to the men of Sodom to rape his daughters is one of the low points of all Hebrew Scripture. And as if God needs protection! Lot had no understanding of God's all-powerful nature, and much less, that it was God who visited him. (Did Lot even realize the men were a theophany?) Deplorable is Lot's spiritual state. And as we shall soon see, his lineage will bear the stain of Sodom's sin, for his daughters will conceive with him as he is in a drunken stupor. And think, all of this pain could have been avoided if he hadn't initially flirted with Sodom by pitching his tent in it's backyard. Alas, we must respect the world. It is very savvy at taking out the most well-intentioned God-fearers.
