protection vs punishment
once they disobeyed God they were going to be separated from him. ie..Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23
the only way they could be redeemed was by the flesh dying so their spirits could be bought back . the tree of life is what healed them from disease and kept them alive . if they would have stayed in the garden and eaten of the tree of life, they would have remained sinners forever separate from God with no hope of redemption. in other words they would have been like disobedient angels who would have been cast out of God's presence forever. eternal beings with no chance at redemption. thanks to God he allows us to die and substitutes Jesus life for mine if I place my trust in him as my lord.
