Why this is in the Bible

This is a story of how sin will take you farther than you want to go. Sin will get control of our lives more than we know or want to admit. Judah was claiming to follow God, but sin was ruling his life in private. His sons were disobedient to God also and they all paid the p rice for sin. Let this chapter be a warning to those who conitnue to let sin rule their lives in place of God. Our sin will find us out. God will punish us for our sin. That is not a popular message today, but it is still true. This is also to contrast the lives of Judah & Joseph. It is the story of the whole family that shifts to Joseph because of his faithfulness to God. You alos see the scarlet thread of redemption flowing through the Bible fulfilled in Jesus. Hopefully this will help in understanding why this passage is in the Bible, Maryann.
