to let everyone know you are fasting...
To me this scripture come to me clearly. When you fast, also known as holding yourself from unnecessary pleasures is something that should not be told of and boasted about in public. Even more importantly DO NOT say that you have rid yourself of a nasty habit to people so that you appear "more holy" when you really haven't. GOD knows if your heart is true and even though people see you righteous, your true judgement will come the day when you die and leave those people behind.
